2007 Geneva Auto Show: BRABUS 550-hp Widestar concept

BRABUS anticipates to get one step ahead of the Mercedes-Benz’s sedate models with its new special M-Class, which comes based on the renowned ML63. Named Widestar concept, the model features new body kit pieces adding to the aggressive looks of the vehicle. Its ultra-wide fenders might be the reason for the name Widestar that looks cool in its matte grey outer clothing while the car’s base has been colored glossy black. Ford recalls 155,000 pickup trucks and SUVs owing to fire risk

Recently, Volkswagen announced a major recall of 790,000 vehicles owing to some glitch in brake light switch. Now, Ford has made a recall for about 155,000 pickup trucks and SUVs owing to a flawed cruise-control-switch system, which has the possibility to get corroded and even catch fire. The vehicles that fall under the affected category include 2003 versions of the F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty truck, the Ford Excursion SUV, and the Lincoln Blackwood pickup truck. It would be surely a set back to Ford since the F-150 has been the most selling vehicle in the U.S. market for last 30 years. Via: blog.wired

Audi SO7 to debut in Shanghai tomorrow

We all are getting impatient about the long prevailing silence of Audi regarding the Audi Q5SUV, which is supposedly being built on the inspiration from the Audi A5. While we all are busy scratching our heads, Audi may well be inline to answer the long pending query as it is unveiling a small crossover/SUV concept, SO7 at the Shanghai Auto Show which begins today . Don’t take the above notion for certainty as it is only a perception, but we do know that the S07 will be powered by a TDI Engine and equipped with the Quattro platform. Knowing that the TDI engine also powers the A5s 187 and 236hp variants and the fact that the Q5 will draw inspiration from the A5, coupled with the info that SO7 comes with a similar beast under the lid, SO7 might well be the forerunner for the Q5. If it is the much-awaited forerunner, Mercedes-Benz GLK and the BMW X3 should pull up their socks for some hard competition, as we all know how good Audi has been in the recent past. Everything said and done, we only have to wait for one day more as the veil of the SO7 will be taken off tomorrow and I know what will be the first thing to check out when I get back to work tomorrow , what about the rest of you ! DaimlerChrysler recalling 489,000 cars, SUVs

Recently, Volkswagen of America Inc. announced a major recall of 790,000 vehicles owing to some glitch in brake light switch. This time, DaimlerChrysler has been reported to make a huge recall for its 489,000 vehicles. The mainly affected vehicles are the 328,424 Dodge Durango SUVs produced between 2004 and 2006. Other affected models are 149,605 Jeep Liberty SUVs produced between 2006 and 2007 and finally the 10,994 Avengers, which are being recalled for glitches with their door latches. Till now, 66 fires have been reported in case of Durangos while twelve fires have been reported as a result of motor failure in the Jeep Liberty SUVs. They haven’t commented on the total cost that might be involved in the recall until mow. Via: WindingRoad

BMW X1 tiny: The small crossover SUV from BMW

After the success of BMW X3 the company has decide to expand its range of crossover SUV’s. The company is on a go to design a small crossover SUV named as BMW X1 tiny that will be positioned below the BMW X3 and is expected to pose some competition to vehicles as the new Nissan Qashqai. This new vehicle is under planning and is expected to arrive in late 2010. The BMW X1 will be based on the 1-Series platform and will feature the same xDrive AWD system we saw on the current BMW X3. Ford Edge CUV: Spirit of a Sports Car, Versatility of an SUV

Were you tuned in to the American idol last light, if you were, you won’t find the words above unfamiliar, for those of you who weren’t these are the concluding words of the two new Ford Edge CUV Commercials, which went on air during the last night episode of the American Idol. The first Commercial states that the Edge is 0.2 seconds faster than the BMW X5 and the second that it is quieter than the Lexus RS 350 . Both the commercials have been directed by David Mamet who has directed it wittingly making sure that the competitors do not take an offense to the dialogue between the two characters in the ad. Both the videos are uploaded here so you people can run through these two videos and decide for yourself whether the comparison mentioned is a ‘True Story’ or just another ‘Bold Move’ from Ford. Lexus bringing the all-new LX 570 SUV to New York

During the 2007 New York International Auto Show, Lexus will come up with their all-new LX 570 luxury utility vehicle. The new vehicle gets a bump in egine capcity from the existing 268-horsepower 4.7L V8 to 5.7L V8, which will be the largest engine offered by Lexus till the date. Well, the new SUV is claimed to be producing about 400 horsepower. The New LX 570 is anticipated to be showcased during the first week of April. Via: Autoblog

Geneva Auto Show: Citroen drops C-Crosser SUV for Europeans

Citroen has in time introduced their latest city crossover SUV dubbed C-Crosser after a long span of artillery volley. The new European SUV looks to be based on a re-badged 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander touting a French face and boasts 5+2 seating capacity. The vehicle runs on an HDi diesel engine with maximum torque of 280 lb-ft with peak 160bhp. It gets to a speed of 62mph in 9.9 seconds and the top speed limit is 124 mph. Toyota picks Mississippi for $1.3 Billion SUV Plant

The world’s second-largest automaker Toyota Motor Corp. is planning to pick northeast Mississippi to build $1.3 billion plant to accomplish heavy demand of sporty vehicles in the States. Toyota at a conference with Mississippi politicians on Tuesday reportedly said that the factory is due to open in 2010 to manufacture about 150,000 Highlander sport-utility vehicles a year at plant site in Blue Springs, 20 miles northwest of Tupelo. Porsche might add a new compact SUV to its line-up

Sensing the heat from the rival luxury automakers who are rolling out an array of mid sized crossovers, Porsche is sniffing adding another compact SUV model to its line up. The new model will tout the same drivetrains as the larger Cayenne is anticipated to be offered with both the V6 and V8 powerplants.
